The University of Innsbruck invites applications for the position of
University Professor of SPORT SCIENCE WITH FOCUS ON BIOMECHANICS
at the Department of Sport Science at the Faculty of Psychology and Sport Science.
It is a position in accordance with § 98 of the Austrian Universities’ Act (Universitätsgesetz -UG) and will be based on a civil-law employment contract with the University on the basis of
the Salaried Employees Act (Angestelltengesetz). The contract will be concluded for an unlimited period; the extent of employment is 100%.
Responsibilities include
The chair-holder is to represent the subject of “Sport Science” both in research and teaching with a focus on “Biomechanics”, esp. at the interface with “Sport Technology”. She/he is expected to bring new impulses to the well-established biomechanical and sports technology research activities at the Department of Sport Science. The preferred focus areas include (i) biomechanics and (ii) the development and implementation of state-of-the-art technologies in sports science and practice. The successful candidate should strive for an international leadership role in these fields. Particular interest should also be given to alpine sports activities.
She/he will seek close cooperation with the units of the faculty’s Research Areas “Neuromechanics”, “Physiology and Prevention”, “Sports Medicine”, “Sports Psychology”, “Sports Economics” and “Active Mobility” and will also participate in the faculty-spanning Research Areas “Health and Prevention over the Life Span” and “Alpine Sports”, which is part of the universities research focus area “Mountain Regions”. Further collaborations with researchers in the technical and natural science faculties at the University of Innsbruck are encouraged.
In teaching, the future professor needs to cover the subject area “Sport Science” with a focus on “Biomechanics” on all three levels of the Bologna System (B.A., M.A., PhD) in the relevant
courses of the Faculty of Psychology and Sport Science. Beyond that she/he is expected to participate in appropriate Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes in other faculties and an active participation in doctoral programs is desired.
Personal involvement in academic administration and self-governance as well as in the department’s and faculty’s working groups will form another essential duty.
Employment Requirements include
- a degree in higher education in Austria or the equivalent abroad, pertinent to the position;
- pertinent habilitation or comparable qualification (e.g. senior lecturer, associate professor);
- publications in leading international peer-reviewed academic journals;
- proven competence in biomechanical measurement, data analysis and simulation methods;
- demonstrated integration into the international research community through relevant international publications, professional networks, and experience.
- interdisciplinary work, preferably in the fields of technology development, sports, health, and prevention.
- relevant international experience;
- experience in acquiring and managing competitive third-party funding;
- pronounced teaching skills;
- management skills;
- the ability to teach in English and German; knowledge of German is not a prerequisite; however, the holder of the position will be expected to acquire the necessary German language skills for university duties in the medium term.

In line with the Collective Bargaining Agreement professors are in remuneration group A 1, i.e., for a full-term professorship the basic salary is 6.604,30 Euro (14 times). Depending on
