is an international research university focused on the development of science and education. Our most important assets are all the individuals who with their curiosity and their dedication make Uppsala University one of Sweden’s most exciting work places. Uppsala University has 40,000 students, 7,000 employees and a turnover of SEK 6,5 billion.
with focus on modeling of soft tissue for computer-assisted surgery planning is part of a multi-disciplinary research collaboration between the Centre for Image Analysis at the Division of Visual Information and Interaction, Dept. of Information Technology, and the Department of Surgical Sciences, Uppsala University. Our research focus is on digital image processing, image analysis, and human-computer interaction with applications to medicine. More info.
The Centre for Image Analysis has a long tradition of theoretical and applied research and graduate education in computerized image analysis and scientific visualization. The focus is not only on image processing as such, but also on developing better methods, algorithms and systems for applications primarily in microscopy, medical imaging, and text recognition. More info.
The Department of Information Technology provides education and research of the highest international quality. The department educates roughly 4,000 students each year, and houses about 30 research teams. The strong research focus impacts and provides an excellent foundation for undergraduate education in the department. The department is building on activities in IT that have been carried on at Uppsala University since the mid 1960s. More info.
The project is part of a research collaboration with head and neck surgeons and their needs for computer-assisted surgery planning. The focus will be on modeling, segmentation, and visualization of soft tissue in patient-specific volume images. The soft tissue modeling is a complement to the modeling methods of skeletal parts in CT data developed previously. The overall goal is to develop interactive methods that surgeons can use in their clinical research.
The position is focused on research but may include a limited amount (max 5%) of teaching, and institutional (max 5%) duties.
The position can be held for a maximum of two years, with starting date as soon as possible.
To qualify for an employment as a postdoctoral researcher, the applicant must hold a doctor’s degree or a foreign qualification deemed equivalent to a doctorate. To be eligible for a postdoctoral position the applicant must have a PhD degree by the application deadline and no more than three years prior to the application deadline; however, for example, periods of sick leave or parental leave are deducted from the three-year period.
The ranking of eligible applicants will be based primarily on research expertise. Documented experience in mathematical modeling, computerized image processing, computer graphics, visualization, and medical applications is of particular importance. Experience from virtual reality and 3D user interfaces is meriting.
In the overall assessment of the applicant’s qualifications, parental leave, part-time work relating to care of children, union assignments, military service, or the like are to be regarded as work experience.
