Workshop: Biomarkers arising from nonlinear analysis of movement variability (03-06.07.2023)

Registration now open: Workshop on “Biomarkers arising from nonlinear analysis of movement variability”
July 3-6, 2023, ETH Zurich, Switzerland

The Laboratory for Movement Biomechanics (LMB – ETH Zurich) together with the Center for Research in Human Movement Variability (MOVCENTR – UNO Omaha) is organizing a 4-day workshop converging experts in the field for deeper discussions and future international level efforts and collaboration for development and validation of biomarkers arising from nonlinear analysis of movement variability. During the workshop, participants will learn about the underlying mathematics and real-world applications of latest techniques and tools for assessment of various nonlinear characteristics: Complexity, Divergence, Regularity and Recurrences in human movement research. The programme also includes keynotes from world leading experts, think-tank sessions to share opportunities and challenges for fundamental investigations in nonlinear analysis of movement variability and Consult with Experts sessions to meet one-to-one with experts to discuss and plan your research journey with non-linear analysis tools.

Participants with varied backgrounds (research scientists, clinicians, educators, and students) are welcome since we include a strong practical component with class discussions and hands-on practice to facilitate understanding of the methods. More info and registration here:

European Society of Biomechancis (ESB) (09-12.07.2023)

28th Congress of the European Society of Biomechanics
Mastricht, The Netherlands, July 2023

Combining data- and knowledge-driven modelling, from measurements, through insights, to decisions

We look forward to seeing you all in 2023!

We are pleased to announce the 28th Congress of the European Society of Biomechanics that will be held in Maastricht, The Netherlands July 9 -12, 2023. The theme of the conference is “Combining data- and knowledge-driven modeling: from measurements, through insights to decisions” endorsing the importance of the integration of mechanistic experimental and computational biomechanics with upcoming data-driven modeling.

In line with the theme we warmly invite traditional ESB congress visitors as well as new students and professionals active in the interdisciplinary field at the interface of biomechanics, data science, and clinical research.

Along with the oral and poster presentations the conference will host dedicated workshops, exhibitions, and events to learn about and discuss new ideas, developments, and applications and build networks between academic, clinical, and industrial researchers. To achieve this, we will make use of the excellent possibilities provided by the conference venue (MECC) and the beautiful ancient city of Maastricht where this venue is located.

The formal call for abstracts is open now and abstracts then can be submitted through our Conference Tool until January 31, 2023.

Of course you can already start preparing your abstract. The template for abstracts can be downloaded from here.

The call for Perspective talks is now closed.

A Perspectives talk is a ‘mini-keynote’ with focus on a cutting edge, coherent body of research and should give a brief overview of results and unanswered questions, based on your own and your group’s contribution to this field.

Biomechanics Summer Course (25-28.07.23)

Basic Biomechanics and Biomechanical Methods for Experimental Research of the Musculoskeletal System  (25.-28.Juli 2023 in Ulm)

we would like to inform you about our Biomechanics Summer Course.

The aim of this course is to train clinicians and biomedical engineers in basic principles of biomechanics. It will allow the participants to gain knowledge in planning and conducting biomechanical experiments by a balanced mixture of 7 lectures and 12 laboratories. The number of participants is limited to 20 in order to guarantee a maximum efficiency for the single participant.

Attention: We have extended Early Bird registration until the 15th of June 2023.

Autumn School on Movement Science (04-06.10.2023)

7th International Autumn School on Movement Science (04-06.10.2023)

We are happy to announce that after a break due to the corona constraints, our International Autumn School for Movement Science is taking place again this year. Being a part of the Berlin School of Movement Science, the Autumn School in Berlin aims at giving PhD students an opportunity to establish contact with outstanding researchers invited to give a talk at the School and to learn more about state-of-the-art human movement research. The Autumn School will be held in Berlin from the 4th to 6th of October 2023.

This year, the scientific program will include three main topics:

Perturbed and unperturbed locomotion (4th October):

Kevin De Pauw (Vrije Universiteit Brussel)
André Seyfarth (Technische Universität Darmstadt)
Thomas Roberts (Brown University)
Jaap van Dieën (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam)

Muscle and tendon: mechanics and adaptation (5th October):

Benedicte Vanwanseele (Katholieke Universiteit Leuven)
Daniel Hahn (Ruhr-Universität Bochum)
Chavaunne Thorpe (Royal Veterinary College London)
Jess Gerrit Snedeker (Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich)

Neural control of movement (6th October):

Francois Hug (Université Côte d’Azur)
Thorsten Stein (Karlsruher Institut für Technologie)
Natalie Mrachacz-Kersting (Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg)
Klaus Gramann (Technische Universität Berlin)

The participation at the Autumn School is free.
