This individual will be responsible for directing the research initiative for the\u00a0department\u2019s Arthroplasty section in collaboration with the arthroplasty faculty as well as\u00a0supporting the department\u2019s research program. As well this individual will oversee the CORIT\u00a0research staff of 8 engineers and support personnel.<\/p>\n<p>Houston is the fourth largest city in the United States and boasts a strong economy with a\u00a0relatively low cost of living (www.houstontx.gov).The McGovern Medical School is located in the\u00a0heart of the Texas Medical Center, the largest medical complex in the world with eight million\u00a0patient visits and more than 180,000 surgeries annually. The Department of Orthopedic\u00a0Surgery within UTHealth is highly ranked in both clinical and academic Orthopaedics and has\u00a0 established 3 research facilities at different campuses across the UTHealth system. The Center\u00a0for Orthopedic Research, Innovation and Training is located in a UT facility adjoining the\u00a0Memorial Hermann Orthopedic and Spine Hospital in Bellaire, Texas.<\/p>\n<h3>Active areas of research at CORIT include:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Evaluation, optimization and development of computer-assisted and robotic\u00a0technologies in Orthopedic Surgery<\/li>\n<li>Development of treatment strategies for improving the diagnosis, prevention and\u00a0treatment of periprosthetic fractures<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Experimental and computational modelling of joint arthroplasty of the knee, hip shoulder\u00a0and ankle as well as modelling applications in other areas of orthopaedic surgery.<\/li>\n<li>Evaluation and development of innovative measures to reduce the incidence of\u00a0prosthetic joint infections during Orthopedic procedures.<\/li>\n<li>Creation of a clinical Registry of Joint Replacement patients and integration into clinical\u00a0practice within the Joint Replacement division.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Position Key Accountabilities:\u00a0Primary Responsibilities of the Director:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Oversee the research activities and academic output of the Center for Orthopedic\u00a0Research Innovation and Training.<\/li>\n<li>Recruit, train, develop and mentor the next generation of engineers, scientists and\u00a0physician-scientists working in orthopaedic research;<\/li>\n<li>Manage and grow the financial resources of the Center to advance its educational,\u00a0scientific, and service missions;<\/li>\n<li>Develop a successful research program in close alignment with the research strategy of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery with a primary focus on the Arthroplasty<\/li>\n<li>Participate in the academic development, selection and mentoring of UT surgeons,\u00a0staff, medical students, residents and fellows<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>\n<h3>Qualifications:<\/h3>\n<p>The successful applicant will have an established reputation of excellence and\u00a0accomplishment in research and academic leadership in Joint Reconstruction, in addition\u00a0to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Doctoral degree in Engineering, Biomechanics, Biomaterials, Robotics or a field of\u00a0Science related to Orthopedic Surgery.<\/li>\n<li>History of productivity in collaborative research related to Orthopedic Surgery leading\u00a0to publications in scholarly journals;<\/li>\n<li>Track record in securing funding for sustained independent research;<\/li>\n<li>Excellent written and oral communication skills.<\/li>\n<li>Excellent inter-personal skills and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with\u00a0surgical faculty in Orthopedics.<\/li>\n<li>Previous experience in successfully managing teams of research investigators<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"jJobInsideInfo\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div data-page=\"job_details\" data-area=\"content_bottom\">\n<div data-name=\"custom\" data-id=\"15195\">\n<h3><span style=\"color: #222222;\">The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth)<\/span><\/h3>\n<div>\n<div title=\"Rich Text Editor, editor2\">\n<p>Established in 1972 by The University of Texas System Board of Regents, The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) is Houston\u2019s Health University and Texas\u2019 resource for health care education, innovation, scientific discovery and excellence in patient care.
